Before pools, before bars, before Austin as we know it, there was a deeper spot in the Colorado River. A large limestone boulder pushed the current just enough to slow the water, deepen it, and cool it.
People found it on their own. A calm pocket where you could swim, linger, and let the afternoon stretch. Locals gave it a name: Deep Eddy.
That single feature shaped everything that followed.
In the early 1900s, the swimming hole became Deep Eddy Resort. A massive concrete pool carved into the river's edge. People came not just to swim, but to be together. Afternoons bled into evenings. Music and conversation carried as much weight as the water itself.
